East Liberty Auto Plant

East Liberty Auto Plant

Technology has been a hallmark of Honda's East Liberty Auto Plant since its opening in 1989. That technology has provided East Liberty with the flexibility to produce cars and light trucks on the same assembly line – the first North American plant to do so in the era of high automation. This milestone was achieved when the Honda Element light truck made its debut in 2002.

Today, the plant produces the Honda Element, CR-V and Civic Sedan. The East Liberty plant also is the only plant in North America producing a dedicated natural-gas vehicle, the Civic GX. In addition, it was the first plant on the continent to employ low-emission, water-borne paint and the first to use laser welding in mass production. Even the toilets are unique, utilizing recycled water. The water is tinted blue because it's recycled from the pretreated waste water.
