Honda of America Mfg. seeks to minimize waste throughout the entire production process. This starts with designing parts, shipping containers and job processes with minimal environmental impact. Then Honda partners with suppliers to eliminate or reduce harmful materials. Distribution and packaging follows, with the utilization of returnable containers. The next stop is the manufacturing plant itself, where Honda implements new programs and technology to reduce the use of energy, eliminate solid waste and lower the amount of emissions and effluents.
One significant investment in 2006 was the start-up of a technologically advanced $123 million paint facility at the Marysville Auto Plant. The state-of-the-art paint line utilizes the latest environmental technology, including waterborne paint and special ovens to cut emissions and significantly reduce energy usage.
