Rebuilding Together Columbus works to assure low-income homeowners – especially elderly, disabled or needy families with young children – can live independently in houses that are safe, warm and dry. This year, volunteer groups refurbished 24 homes throughout the Columbus area, including one completed entirely by a Honda Hero team.

Honda of America has provided sponsorship funding and volunteers to help with homes in the community since 2002.

Rachel's House, located in Bellefontaine, is a non-profit agency that provides temporary shelter for children of families living in Logan County. The organization lends assistance to people during emergencies by providing a safe and caring environment for children.

In 2007, a dozen Honda Hero volunteers installed a children's gym set, painted a fence and a section of the house, and landscaped the yard with plants and flowers.

A grant from Honda of America helped purchase project supplies to make roof repairs, install a new floor for the front porch and replace carpeting and linoleum.

Our Daily Bread Food Pantry serving Logan County, provides hot meals to people in need three times a week, a majority of them being young children.

Last year, a grant from Honda helped purchase shelving units for canned food storage and supplies to assist the Honda Hero volunteers with their project.

Honda Heroes and family members painted the dining hall, office, entryway, and staircase and cleaned windows. In addition, they trimmed shrubs and added landscaping stones around the building.

Ohio's Big Darby Creek watershed is one of the most biologically diverse aquatic systems in the state and in the Midwest. That's why Honda Heroes volunteered their time helping to control the invasive bush honeysuckle plant that is growing along a new trail at the Big Darby headwaters.

Invasive species, like the bush honeysuckle, damage the land and waters that native plants and animals need to survive. Because the Big Darby is one of our designated national and state scenic rivers, it is important to keep the land near it pristine to ensure preservation of its ecosystem. Honda of America Mfg. has supported the The Nature Conservancy for more than 15 years in efforts to acquire land on the Darby headwaters, monitor water quality, conduct research and establish voluntary watershed protection programs.
